Our History

History of the band

In 1989, a group of Cupertino High School Band alumni came together to play a surprise concert honoring long-time CHS music director, Mr. Robert (Bob) Gomez. Former band members from 12 different states and spanning the 22 years of Mr. Gomez’s tenure at CHS participated in the event.

The performance rekindled a sense of joy for several of the alumni and sparked a desire to continue to perform now as adults. With a little persuasion, Bob agreed to resume conducting and the Cupertino High School Alumni Band was formed.

In the years since, new faces have joined the group, bringing their unique musicality and resulting in a new name – The Cupertino Symphonic Band.
